At All Saints’, we do special things on Family First Sundays to make worship more accessible to children. This month, October 4th is a day to remember the life and witness of St. Francis of Assisi. Francis called us to remember that all of God’s creatures bring God glory simply by living and being who they were created to be. The Feast of St. Francis has traditionally been a day when we ask God’s blessing on the pets and animals that make our lives rich and good. Your pets (on leash or in a portable kennel) are welcome at worship at 10 am.
Mother Mary adds: in my experience, pets behave at least as well as the humans that accompany them. In more than a quarter century of being a priest, I am always amazed by how the pets seem to understand that church is a good, holy, and special place. I’ve yet to see chaos break out at a Pet Blessing, even though it might seem likely. When in doubt, bring your pet!
