Outreach

All Saints has an active outreach program and policy. We are part of a network of Minot church’s offering a free community lunch each day of the week. Ours is Thursday, from 11:30am to 12:30pm. We regularly conduct fundraising events for the Souris Valley Humane Society and other local nonprofits.

Youth Group

All Saints' has a lively youth group comprised of grades 4-8. We meet every other Wednesday night to have fun, eat pizza and even learn about Our Lord. Our youth program includes public service, outings, and service within the church. This year the kids are involved in Confirmation education that will culminate with confirmation by the Bishop in November 2006.

Christian Education

We offer traditional Christian Education for all ages at 9:00, an hour before our services on Sunday. Nursery services are available on request. We also offer a mid-week Bible Study each Wednesday (except in the summer) at 6:30, following our 5:15 Eucharist. Those lessons normally focus on the lesson for the coming Sunday, though we have special studies for Lent and Advent. There is normally at least one six-week session on Tuesday evening during the year on Scripture, church history, and related topics. We offer programs of general interest during the year, on topics such as the connection between Native American and Christian worship traditions, or the Public TV program on C.S. Lewis and Sigmund Freud. Kathy Hintz is the Christian Ed Coordinator.

Evening Guild

Evening Guild has met continuously at least since the 1920’s. In the 1930’s the Guild served lunches to local service clubs to raise money to pay off the mortgage on the building. Their fund-raising efforts on behalf of the church still continue through the annual sale of Pecans. They meet monthly on the third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 in the Parish Hall for a business meeting, educational program, and dessert. The current president is Maggie Mayer.

Choir and Music

All Saint’s has an active music program. The adult choir currently has 4-6 voices. They rehearse each Wednesday night from 7-8 p.m. and help lead the congregation in song on Sunday and at special services. An organ was installed in the 1930 and is still used regularly. Much of the accompaniment is provided by a Clavinova, which now has over 700 songs in a pre-recorded repertoire. A children’s choir performs regularly, and several youth provide instrumental music. We strive for a “blended worship” with our music, drawing on a wide variety of musical traditions, including classical pieces, traditional hymns, gospel, Celtic, and contemporary music. New members are always welcome in the choir. The coordinator is Joanne Slanger.

Acolytes

Acolytes assist at worship by lighting the candles, carrying the cross and torches in the processional and recessional, and by assisting the priests at Eucharist. We meet immediately after church on the second Sunday of the month for instruction. Anyone over the age of nine is welcome as an acolyte. George Slanger currently serves as Acolyte Master and Charlie Lee as Senior Acolyte.

Lay Worship Leaders

There are many opportunities for laypersons to help in worship.
  1. Layreaders read the lessons and prayers of the people at worship.
  2. Worship leaders lead services of Morning Prayer
  3. Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEM’s) were previously called “chalice bearers.” They assist at Eucharist by offering the wine at communion.
  4. Lay Eucharistic Visitors (LEV’s) carry communion to shut-ins.
  5. Lay Preachers preach sermons of their own composition.
  6. Catechists specialize in Christian Education, teaching church school and helping prepare students for confirmation.
Except for lectors, these ministries require licensing by the Diocese. The current coordinator of lay worship leaders is John Williams.

Opportunities for Ordination

The Episcopal church provides opportunities for people to prepare locally, though home study, to be ordained as local priests or deacons, who serve without stipend. Deacons assist at worship though their primary calling is to serve in the community. The process normally takes at least three years. Assisting Priest George Slanger instructs and prepares candidates for examination by Diocesan Examining Chaplains. Please meet with George if you are interested in pursuing ordination in the church.

Community Lunch

All Saints is part of a coalition of churches that provides a hot lunch for the community seven days a week. Our day is Thursdays, from 11:30 to 12:30 when we serve homemade soup and sandwiches, normally to at least 30 people, sometimes to 60 or more. Our Soup Kitchen strives to meet people’s needs not only for nutrition, but for community. Volunteers are always welcome.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild prepares the altar for services on Sunday and special occasions and maintains the worship supplies. The current coordinator is Judy Smith.

Outings

At least two outings are available each year. On the weekend closest to Valentines’ Day, we have our “Winter Fling” at Metigoshe Ministries, a retreat center maintained by the Lutheran Church in the Turtle Mountain. This is a time of winter sports, fellowship, and worship in a beautiful setting. In the summer, we normally have our “Badlands Trail Ride” at the Little Missouri State Primitive Park north of Killdeer. Contact George Slanger.

Vestry

The 7-member Vestry oversees the property and financial business of the church. Members are elected to three-year terms at the annual meeting in January. They meet each third Monday at 6:00 p.m. The Senior Warden, elected by the vestry, serves a one-year term. JoAnne Buriak is the current Senior Warden and Billy McEwen the current junior warden.

Greeters

Our greeters welcome worshipers each Sunday and maintain the pew materials. Joanne Buriak is the current coordinator.
