Baptism and the Holy Spirit. 31 May 2009
Today we are bringing together two of the great events in the Church: Baptism and the Holy Spirit. As those two things were brought together on the first Pentecost described in the book of Acts so we arebringing them together here. And those ancient events were no more blessed or holy than what we witness today.

Judas and Matthias--23 May 2009
The great wheel turns through the four seasons. And with the wheel of the seasons, the great wheel of the church year turns us through the six seasons from Advent to Christmas to Epiphany to Lent to Easter, to Pentecost, which he church calls ordinary time. Helpfully, our church arranges its lessons to accompany us through the seasons. As we stand on the eve of Pentecost, our lessons are anticipatory. To prepare us for Pentecost, the lessons talk about people preparing

Ahab and the Bible as Story. June 13, 2010
The goal of reading scripture is to feel ourselves part of these stories and part of them and part of the larger drama of salvation which the scriptures tell. But if we fail to respond to the Bible on the level of story, our moral and theological responses will be superficial.
